Animal poems - Egret
Egret
... purity, patience, reflection
Just by the water's edge a bird wades forth.
Beheld a watcher from far away.
Plumage pure and white, elegant in form.
Like a precision still frame watercolor, eat, love and pray.
To observe the meandering of fish,
It must stare down through its own reflection.
And no other animal does.
Spend such time deep in reflection.
Symbol of strength, purity, patience and long life.
Heavenly messenger in asian mythology,
Embedded in the transparent waterways and reeds,
A most stunning green ecology.
A quiet intelligence, draws the fascinated mind.
In moments of flight, it sees the whole detailed earth from above.
In moments of rest, its heart softens to close its eyes in its nest.
In moments in freshwater foraging, it ponders the deep meaning of life and love.
The great egret.
Indeed.
Beautiful bird,
Fair in nature and soft feathers.
You make others dream and smile.
Where the water and land come together.

About this Poem... This is one in a serious of poems I've written about various animals. The motivation, is that I love the idea of spirit animals, and I decided, one day, to ask many of my friend what animal they think best represents their personality. In some cases the poems are written with the person in mind... and sometimes it's purely about the animal. Read more about my process here.
