Animal poems - Otter
Otter
... adorable, cuddly, playful
Where the land meets the sea, you mean oceans to me.
You are so adorable, it could kill me.
You are so playful, I could fall over.
And you are cuddly, I could fall in love.
From a kayak I watch you in front of me,
Laying back, and basking in the sun.
Gliding effortlessly over a glassy ocean
Turning and twisting like a dancer.
Forever youthful, and in wonderment of life.
There is not a creature in the sea who isn't envious of the fun you have,
Not a creature alive who doesn't want to dance with you, and share your outlook on life.
You are the epitome of fun, of affection and of love.
All who watch you play, will smile.
A youthful spirit, social yet wild.
Your beautiful fur glistens with water and sun.
On land you are adorably awkward, but in the water you rule the waves with majestically agility.
To see you come onto the shore, and snuggle with your friends it what melts my heart the most.
In oceans, you play, all night and all day.
I watch you with a smile and wait for you near the shore.
I want to stay close and wait where the land meets the sea,
As I'm sure that you know, you mean oceans to me.

About this Poem... This is one in a serious of poems I've written about various animals. The motivation, is that I love the idea of spirit animals, and I decided, one day, to ask many of my friend what animal they think best represents their personality. In some cases the poems are written with the person in mind... and sometimes it's purely about the animal. Read more about my process here.
