Alpaca

     ... quirky, intelligent, curious

Playful animal you are. Thick curly hair like a mop, cheeky eyes.
Your neck stretches forever, giving you the height you need to peer over all.
To see what others do not, to smile in self amusement at those who don't understand.
Other's take life to seriously. You embrace it... and it's written all over your little smirk, and mop like hair.

Are you underestimated? Always.
Does it bother you? No.
You are not part of any race, nor showy like others on the farm, you are intelligent and curious about life.
Your white locks dangle playfully, and bounce as you nudge your friends.

You hum a merry tune, you smirk and run and frolic in green pastures.
Your long neck is held up proud and your smile is infection to others.
You are too well raised to be rude, to bite, or be mean.
You spread joy, and it fills you back up. You understand this.

Your demeanor is gentle. Your heart is pure with love for the simple things.
You can carry great load, provide warmth, provide companionship.
You are adaptable, tough, loyal and love a good hug from any animal.
You are not part of any race; you are smarter than I – and I long to learn the secrets behind that infectious cheeky smile.

Are you underestimated? Always.
Will I underestimate you? Never.
This world would be an Eden should we all live life as you do.
And this world is already a better place, for you in it.

About this Poem...

Animal: Alpaca
Description/motivation: Alpaca are weird animals right?! Yet I read up a little bit, and they seems pretty amazing animals too. This poem is dedicate to Betty. :)

This is one in a serious of poems I've written about various animals. The motivation, is that I love the idea of spirit animals, and I decided, one day, to ask many of my friend what animal they think best represents their personality. In some cases the poems are written with the person in mind... and sometimes it's purely about the animal. Read more about my process here. This is an original poem by me!
